“I AM THAT I AM”
The first occasion in the Bible God explains who he is, is in the reply to Moses, which took place in the ‘mount of God’. (Ex 3:1)
When Moses inquires from God how he should refer to God, he replies “I AM THAT I AM”
Exodus 3:13-14
And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM:
Every time I hear these few words, they intrigue me, they make my hair stand and every time I read it, I seem to gape in awe.
What does these powerful words direct from God actually mean!.
“I AM THAT I AM”
Literally if we look at the sentence “I AM”, we can add many things to this, example like GOOD, “I AM GOOD” means “I AM” equalant to “GOOD”.
“I AM” is the present existent condition and “GOOD” is the new present or future attribute which is combined into state of existence.
This may be difficult to grasp. Lets look at some examples “I AM GOOD” or “I AM SICK”, basically means that “I AM” which is the present state of condition, “GOOD” or “SICK” which is the attribute, which gives a state of existence, I.e. you are deemed Good or sick at this present time.
I AM THAT I AM
Unlike above which is a closed statement “I AM THAT I AM” is a fascinating and deep collection of words which represents a infinite loop.
This covers every condition that exists in the present time and can be used at any given time, in other words an immortal sentence.
St Paul goes to further explain this as
Romans 11:36
For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things
This means that everything which exists at any given time, everything!, universe, world, heavens, creatures, thoughts etc ARE HIS, IS HIS and WILL BE HIS !.
What a strong explanation direct from the mouth of God as to who God is, HE IS EVERYTHING!. This sentence will continue to amaze mankind of the power and the wisdom of God.
He is all powerful and omni present and yet he manages to bring him self down in the form of the holy spirit to dwell within you and me.
