Title: The Plans He Has for You
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Jeremiah 29:11
This verse is one of the most beloved promises in all of Scripture, and for good reason. The Prophet Jeremiah wrote these words to the people of Israel during a very difficult season. They were living in exile in Babylon, far from their homeland, feeling forgotten and discouraged. Yet God, through Jeremiah, was telling them something extraordinary: even in the midst of their hardship, He had not abandoned them. His thoughts toward them were thoughts of peace, not evil. He had a future and a hope for them, a plan that would lead to blessing rather than destruction.
What does this mean for us today? It means that no matter where you find yourself right now, whether in a season of joy or a season of struggle, God has intentions toward you that are good. He is not plotting your failure or your ruin. He is not distant or indifferent. He is actively working behind the scenes, orchestrating circumstances for your ultimate welfare. The word “expected end” speaks of a hopeful outcome, something you can look forward to with confidence.
Now, how do we live this out practically? It starts with trust. When uncertainty clouds your vision and the path ahead seems unclear, remind yourself of this promise. Write it down. Say it out loud. Let it settle into your heart like warm oil poured over dry wood. Then, take one step forward in faith, knowing that God is guiding your steps even when you cannot see the whole staircase.
Let me share a simple story with you. There was a woman named Martha who lost her job unexpectedly. She was frightened and did not know how she would pay her bills. But she remembered Jeremiah 29:11 and chose to believe that God had a plan even in this difficulty. She began volunteering at a local food bank while she searched for work. During her time there, she met a woman who later connected her with a job opportunity that she never would have found on her own. Looking back, she could see how God had used that painful season to lead her to something better. Her expected end was peace, not harm.
So today, whatever you are facing, hold onto this truth: God’s thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace. Trust Him with your story.
