Title: God’s Good Plans For You
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
This verse is one of the most beloved promises in all of Scripture. The prophet Jeremiah wrote these words to the people of Israel while they were living in exile in Babylon. They had been taken from their homes, their temple lay destroyed, and they were living as strangers in a foreign land. It would have been easy for them to feel forgotten, abandoned, and without hope. But God, through Jeremiah, spoke directly to their hearts and told them something extraordinary: He had not forgotten them. He had not abandoned them. In fact, He had plans for them—plans for their welfare, not for their harm. Plans to give them a hopeful future.
When we read this verse today, we must understand that God’s promise extends to us as well. He knows the thoughts He thinks toward us. He is not plotting against us or wishing us harm. Even when life feels chaotic, confusing, or painful, God is working behind the scenes for our good. His plans are not accidents. His timing is not random. He sees the entire picture of our lives when we see only pieces.
Now, let me share a story with you about my friend Margaret. A few years ago, Margaret lost her job unexpectedly. She was fifty-two years old, had given her best years to that company, and suddenly found herself wondering how she would pay her bills. She felt defeated and embarrassed. She could not understand why God would allow this to happen to her. She spent weeks worrying, losing sleep, and questioning everything she believed.
But then she remembered this verse. She began to pray not for the job to come back, but for God to show her what He was doing. Slowly, she started exploring a career path she had always been afraid to try—she had always wanted to start her own small business baking custom cakes. With the financial pressure pushing her, she took a leap of faith. Two years later, her cake business was thriving beyond anything she could have imagined. Looking back, she realized that losing that job was not the end of her story—it was the beginning of a far better one.
Here is how you can apply this verse today. When you face a difficult circumstance, do not assume God has abandoned you or that He is punishing you. Instead, pause and ask Him to reveal what He is doing. Trust that He has a plan, even when you cannot see it. Write down your concerns and then write next to them: “God is working on my behalf.” Then take one small step forward in faith, knowing that He goes before you.
God’s plans for you are good. You can trust Him today.
